Conscious Sedation
If you have a fear of
going to the dentist, do not always respond to numbing
agents such as Novocain, have a bad gag reflex, very
sensitive teeth, complex dental problems, a limited
time to complete dental care, or would like fewer
but longer appointments, you have options! Sedation
dentistry can take the fear out of going to the dentist.

Pill Sedation
Sedation dentistry using
a pill allows you to be drowsy through your dental
appointment.
Patients interested
in pill sedation will need a driver who can take them
to and from the appointment. You will be given a prescription
to fill before your scheduled visit. You will take
1-2 tablets the night before your scheduled treatment
and 1-2 one hour before your dental visit. By the
time you arrive at our office, you will already be
very drowsy, and we will help you relax in one of
our comfortable chairs with a warm blanket. When you
have settled into a peaceful state our sedation dentist
will take care of your dental needs.
Although you will not
be asleep, you will be mostly unaware of the dental
treatments we perform and will feel no pain. When
your dental work is complete, you can return home
to rest with virtually no memory of the sounds, smells,
or sights associated with dental visits.
Sedation Dentistry
Using Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide (laughing
gas) helps to take the edge off, so you feel calm
and relaxed. Our sedation dentist uses a mix of nitrous
oxide and oxygen, for increased safety. This sedation
dentistry method has a pain-killing effect and is
especially effective in managing severe gagging. Your
dose of nitrous oxide is easily adjusted until the
optimal level of sedation is achieved. Adjusting the
level of sedation is simple and quick, and the gas
swiftly disappears from the body once the gas is stopped,
allowing the patient to safely drive home after their
appointment.
This method of sedation
dentistry allows the patient to enjoy a pleasant feeling,
even during an intense or extensive session of dental
work.
The Benefits
of Sedation Dentistry
Sedation
dentistry allows most people who suffer from anxiety
at the thought of going to the dentist to get the
help they need, correcting years of dental neglect.
Sedation dentistry can also simplify cosmetic dentistry
treatments involving teeth
whitening, porcelain
veneers, dental
implants, or crowns.
